About Us

TOTW_Gold_2022[28673].png

There is evidence to suggest that there was an inn on the site from the early 1800's and over the years the Rising Sun has had a fine reputation for its offerings at the time.

The pub is now owned by Barry & Sarnia McGoun and has quickly achieved a reputation for good food and a warm welcome.

We strive to use the best local and seasonal produce where possible encouraging our guests to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, good beer and pretty decent food.

We are thrilled to be holders of a coveted GOLD award from the team at Taste of the West.

One of the considerations in being awarded is businesses use of local and seasonal produce.

Olly & Matt work tirelessly to produce fresh, interesting and flavourful dishes using the best of British suppliers - local where possible. Most of the meat comes via Bonners of Ilminster, much of which is reared in the fields around the pub.

Fish is direct from St Mawes in Cornwall and the mornings land can often be seen arriving in Knapp just before dinner service.

Goosemoor Foodservice (Dart Farm) provide fresh veg, dairy and speciality items.

The same philosophies apply in the bar and restaurant - with beers from Exmoor and the Blackdown Hills; gins and vodka from the Westcountry and wines supplied by local merchants. Sam combines these great local products with seasonal fruits to create interesting and innovative cocktails and mocktails.

Local Somerset historian Angela Dix, was kind enough to provide some history of the structure  The Rising Sun which can be read here.

3

Trip Advisor Review

"Fast becoming our favourite venue, the Rising Sun manages to combine great service with even greater food. The small range of dishes on the menu is evidence of the quality of the food and the care with which it's prepared.
